The source of America's problems

I think the problem we’re facing now is that most American’s want things to change. This is something I’ve seen on both sides. The problem is that we can’t agree on what should change and what the ideal outcome of these changes should be. America is a large country with a lot of groups of people in it, and I think a large part of our problems is that our government just isn’t built to deal with it. It’s not a case of Republican’s wanting one thing and the Democrats wanting something else, it’s a case of Republicans wanting one thing, and the Democrats wanting everything else.

A lot of people say the problem with our government is that the two parties, Democrats and Republicans, won’t work together on anything. A lot of people go so far as to say there shouldn’t be two parties and that our founding fathers didn’t even want a system with parties. Setting aside the fact that our founding fathers did a number of things that didn’t benefit the country in the long run, and that they themselves admitted that they didn’t know everything about how to make a long-lasting government, I don’t think the problem is that America’s two major political parties can’t agree on anything. I think the problem is that we only have two parties. A two-party system works so long as both sides agree on most things, enough so that when they come to a compromise it’s one that both sides are okay with. The problem is that Republicans are focused on the needs of only one group, white men, while democrats are focused on the needs of everyone who isn’t a white, straight, cis, heterosexual male.
